A lot of people consider journaling to be synonymous with keeping a diary. But a more accurate analogy would be, writing a diary is like touching the surface of a sea, while a journal takes a nose dive into its depths. Because a diary records the day to day events of a person’s life. But a journal only records the important events and explores the feelings, emotions, and thoughts residing in the deepest, darkest corners of the writer’s brain regarding those events.

 

In the current times, digital journals are starting to become more popular than physical ones. Digital journaling apps are starting to take a spot in the lives of millions of people around the world. One of these journaling apps that has caused quite an uproar is Journey.

 

I have been using this app for three weeks, but do wish I had found it sooner.

What is Journey?

Journey is an award-winning journaling app that focuses on improving mental health and relationships. On the surface, it may look like any ordinary journaling app. But what sets it apart is its wide variety of journaling coaching programs.

 

These coaching programs allow the user to focus on a single aspect of their lives. It guides the users to understand whether that part of their lives needs improvement and helps them achieve their desired goals. We’ll talk more about this feature later in the article so be sure to read to the end.

Timeline Style Entries

Your entries will be recorded into Journey in timeline style fashion, which is very attractive and convenient. It gives you a bird’s eye view of your journey towards personal development, mental wellbeing, stress relief, whatever your journaling goal is.

 

Flexibility in Writing

Journey’s journal editor basically includes everything except your kitchen sink. Go all out by attaching pictures, locations, videos, voice recordings, and maps. It also lets you incorporate tables…for some reason.

 

Availability across All Devices

You can use the Journey app from your Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android devices. It also has a web interface, which means you can find and write your journal entries on their website by logging into your account.

 

This makes your journaling very convenient because you can carry Journey everywhere, much like an actual notebook.

 

Secure

I used to use a notebook for journaling. But the problem was, I live in a dorm room with four other girls. We respect each other’s privacy enough not to pry, but that nagging ‘what if’ really used to bug me.

 

Journey has solved that problem for me. Accessing the app requires a four-character password, which makes sure your thoughts are safe, private, and protected.

 

Additional Features

Journey also has some fun additional features like a built-in Mood Tracker. It also has a night mode, which makes the app easy to use in the dark.

Journey’s Coaching Programs

This is the feature I have been the most excited to talk about. This sets Journey apart from the other thousands of journaling apps out there and transforms it into a tool that can be used for improving mental health and wellbeing.

 

Coaching programs are only available in apps. You can find a list of programs on the Coach section of the app menu on the left. There is a wide variety of daily, monthly, or weekly coaching programs to choose from depending on your personal needs. Some take you on a journey of self-discovery, some help you tune in with your inner self, some help you improve your relationships. While some programs are more specific, like helping you get better sleep or develop better morning habits. There are also seasonal coaching programs for particular times of the year, like autumn or summer.

 

How coaching programs work is that once you choose a program to enroll in, each morning you’ll find a journaling prompt waiting for you in your timeline. These prompts are specifically designed to make you tap you into the parts of your mind you generally don’t explore. As you carry on with the program, and continue filling in the journaling prompts, you’ll gradually start seeing an improvement in the area of your life you chose to work on.

 

Seeing results from the coaching programs requires efforts on your part as well. Be sure to carve out a specific chunk of time each day to write your assigned journaling prompt in as much detail as possible. Dive as deep into your mind as you can so you can find the roots of your issues. Because only then you can start to resolve them.
