How To Have The Perfect Luxurious DIY Summer Spa Day At Home
I usually have a spa day for myself once a month, and I adjust my routine a little bit according to the seasons. I prefer having spas at home than outdoors, which came in handy during quarantine. Because when I’m pampering myself, I get to create the recipes by myself. So I can consider my skin’s own unique needs when choosing the ingredients, and not to mention mixing the ingredients makes me feel like a witch. That was weird, sorry. And the act of pampering myself allows me to practice self-love. It makes me feel like I deserve to be appreciated and cherished.
On this post, I’m going to share my luxurious, yet easy and relaxing spa day routine, along with some recipes that have helped me feel refreshed and relaxed in a hot summer day, and made my skin and hair glow.
1. Make Yourself a Refreshing Summer Fruit Infused Drink
Start your spa day by making a fruit infused water to detox and cleanse your body, as well as your skin. In a large glass or a mason jar, cut up some fruits of your choice and add in a splash of water. Here are some combination you can use to make own DIY fruit infused water:
- Watermelon, blueberries, and a few mint leaves. This is my go-to recipe for the summer.
- Slices of lime and some cherries.
- Slices of lime and kiwis, paired with some blackberries.
The minerals and juice released from the fruits will make an ordinary glass of water much more enticing and nourishing.
2. Steam Your Face To Get The Most Out of Your Skincare Routine
Steaming your face before starting your skincare routine will open up your pores and allow the ingredients from the rest of your skincare routine to flow deep into the layers of your skin, which will enhance the benefits of the products by five folds.
To make your very own DIY steamer, you will need the following ingredients:
- A large pot filled with water
- Half a cucumber, sliced.
- Two Chamomile Tea Bags
- 3-4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Heat the water and add in the cucumber slices, chamomile tea bags, and lavender essential oil. When the steam has begun to release, position your face over the pot and cover your head along with the pot with a thin piece of cloth. The cloth will prevent the steam from escaping. Allow the steam to open up your pores for about 10 minutes. Steaming your face makes your skin sweat a lot so drink plenty of water to hydrate yourself afterward.
3. Give Yourself a Face Massage
Massaging your face improves circulation and tones your skin, which reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. It allows your muscles to relax and increases blood flow to your skin, making your skin look younger and healthier. I believe no spa day is complete without a good massage. But it can be a complication if you are a lonely beaver like me. If that’s the case then face massage is a perfect solution because it is the only body part that doesn’t require an extra pair of hands to massage.
I use the Tatcha Pure One Step Camilla Cleansing Oil to massage my skin. I’ve tried a lot of cleansers throughout the years but honestly, I’ve never found one that’s as good as this product. It is an extremely smooth, rich, purifying oil that will make you feel like your skin just had a very large drink. It thoroughly cleanses your skin without stripping away its natural oils, leaving your skin with a velvety and smooth texture.
You can use your hands, but I recommend using a Jade Roller for an expert treatment. It acts as a de-puffer which helps define your jawline, cheekbones and brows. Our faces tend to become puffy in the morning from a long night’s sleep. Including a 5 minute jade roller massage in your morning routine will help your face look more sculpted and sharp throughout the day.
Your fingers may contain harmful microbes which can cause acne and breakouts or worse get you infected with coronavirus. So if you are using your hands, be sure to wash them with an antibacterial soap before touching your face.
4. Make Your Bath More Glamorous and Restorative With This DIY Bath Soak
Are you ready to upgrade your average bath? This luxurious, yet simple DIY bath soak is made with a blend of Himalayan pink salt, rose petals, oatmeal, milk, and essential oils that will detox, moisturize, exfoliate and soothe your skin.
Himalayan Pink Salt has a slight pink tint and is an extremely enchanting salt that is capable of detoxing your skin, cleansing it from impurities, increase circulation, and enhances the bath’s healing properties.
Dried rose petals are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants. Not to mention, the soothing aroma will make you feel like you have been temporarily deported to paradise.
Milk is a historic ingredient that has been used in baths to soften and cleanse skin since ancient times. Its skin regeneration properties are extraordinary. It is also used to exfoliate dead skin cells. Oatmeal has moisturizing and cleansing properties and is rich in anti-oxidative.
The recipe for this bath soak requires the following ingredients. The links to each are included in the list below:
- ½ cup of Himalayan Pink Salt
- ½ cup of Dried Rose Petals
- ½ cup of powdered milk
- ½ cup of Oatmeal

5. Apply a Face Mask
Before getting into the bath, I apply my Organic Charcoal and Clay face mask by chic republic. The mask detoxes and purifies your skin by absorbing all the impurities, and infuses your skin with anti-aging minerals. It gently exfoliates your skin and minimizes pores which prevents acne and breakouts. This mask has also helped me get rid of my stubborn acne scars which had refused to my skin for years, within a few weeks.
I put on my face mask, set a relaxing playlist to play, and allow myself to soak into the water. Once the face mask has dried, I peel it off and wash my face with a water-based cleanser. You can use any cleanser that suits your skin.
6. Nourish Your Locks With This Easy Hair Mask
Once you’re done with the face mask, it’s time to shift our attention to our hair. I will give you the recipe that my mom taught me. It has helped my hair grow faster and reduce hair loss by strengthening my roots. The ingredients are very affordable and all of them are available in your local grocery store. To make this hair mask, you will need:
- ½ of a ripe avocado
- ½ a cup of milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp of honey
Peel the ripe avocado and cut it into large chunks before adding it to the blender. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until the mixture has transformed into a smooth green paste with a slightly thick consistency.
Apply the mask to your hair, including both the roots and tips. Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner afterward.
7. Treat Your Body With This Coffee Scrub That Smells Like Your Favorite Latte
If it isn’t already apparent from my domain name, my author bio and references to coffee in 80% of my blog posts, I am a bit of a coffee addict. So, of course, my perfect pampering routine wouldn’t be complete without a touch of coffee.
This toning and exfoliating scrub made from a combination of coffee grounds, vanilla, and almond oil smells like a decadent french latte. And I must warn you, if you are half as fond of coffee as I am, you will have to fight the urge to eat it the entire time because of the aroma.
Coffee tightens skin, exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. The Vitamin E extract will moisturize and heal your skin, protect it from further damage, and soothe your skin. Almond oil has toning properties that reduce stretch marks, rejuvenates, and evens out skin tone, making your skin glow from the inside out.
To make this scrub you will need the following ingredients. The links to each of them are included in the list:
- ½ cup of Ground Coffee
- ½ cup of Organic Sugar
- 1 tbsp Almond Oil
- 1 Vitamin E Capsule
- 10 drops of Vanilla Essential Oil
Mix the ingredients in a bowl and apply it to your arms and legs. For best results, leave the scrub on for 10 minutes before rinsing it with water. This will help the coffee grounds and almond oil tone your skin.
I usually keep the cozy and relaxing vibe going by spending the rest of the evening curled up with a good book and a cup of soothing lavender tea. Allowing myself to unplug and indulge in this grand pampering session allows me to be much more productive for the rest of the month. This day allows most of the anxiety and stress that stemmed from the past month to slip away so I can start the new month with a blank slate.
